Trauma and Couple Recovery

Presented by Robert Navarra - 3 CE Hours

Workshop Description:
This workshop directly addresses the theme of the conference in providing a framework for therapists to assist couples traumatized by substance use and behavioral disorders. A relational approach to recovery, unfortunately, is typically overlooked in most current treatment models of recovery, despite the alarming statistics of divorce rates four times greater than average for couples impacted by substance use disorders. This workshop addresses the need for helping couples develop a “couple recovery” and provides specific strategies and interventions in helping couples heal from trauma from addictive disorders.

Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this online workshop, participants will be able to:
1Describe the four qualities and strategies therapist can employ to strengthen couple recovery
2. Describe and critique the current and most common approach in treating couples in recovery
3. Explain the impact of addiction and recovery processes on the couple relationship
4. Apply three techniques and strategies in helping couples manage trauma
