Optimizing Health Outcomes: Application of Mindfulness in an Integrated Healthcare Employer Setting

Presented by Michael Mombrea, MA and Alex Mackenzie, LMFT, CEAP, CCP - 3 CE Hours

Workshop Description:
This advanced level course will describe the employment of mindfulness based therapeutic techniques that fall solidly within a client centered therapeutic approach. This approach draws upon a growing body of research demonstrating that mindfulness practices have the potential to change the brain (“neuroplasticity") and optimize treatment outcomes, reducing impulsivity, emotional reactivity and increasing the capacity for self-regulation. The course will describe case scenarios in which the symptoms of chronic stress and anxiety result in a constellation of physical symptoms and medical conditions. When treated in the context of an integrated setting, quality of care improves and patient satisfaction increases. The course will elucidate the critically important role of our profession in shaping the future of healthcare delivery systems through active collaboration with medical and alternative care practitioners.
Not for Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselors
